Each AFL Teams Tallest Player Ever

They say that to be successful in AFL you need to have the toughness of a rugby player, the speed and stamina of a soccer player and, importantly, the height of a basketball player. 


Here is the list of Each AFL Teams Tallest Player Ever...



Adelaide


Romano Negri (2.04m)

Negri was a part of Adelaide’s first team in 1991 but only played 6 games. He was born in Tasmania and played in the SANFL after he was dropped from AFL.



Brisbane


Dean Farnham (2.06m)

Dean Farnham played for Fitzroy back in 1974 but played just 17 games. He was a big man weighing 115kg and even got in with scoring whilst at Fitzroy kicking 4 goals in his short career.



Carlton


Justin Madden (2.06m)

Probably the most interesting player on the list, Justin Madden stood a staggering 206cm and played with older brother Simon Madden at Essendon and then moved to Carlton. He played 287 career games and kicked 170 goals. He also went on to represent the Labor party after footy.

Collingwood


Mason Cox (2.11m)


Mason was born in Texas, America and debuted for Collingwood in 2016 as a ruckman and forward. When he debuted he became the equal tallest player ever and the tallest Collingwood player ever. 



Essendon


Sam Draper (2.05m)

Sam Draper is Essendon’s main ruckman standing at 2.06m tall. Born in England, Draper was destined to play soccer before his height ended that dream. On a whim he decided to give AFL a go at 17 and was found by South Australian scouts and soon enough was drafted by Essendon where he has gone on to be a cult hero at the club.



Fremantle


Aaron Sandilands (2.11m)

Sandilands debuted in the first game in 2003 as the tallest player to play AFL ever and went on to have a long and successful career. He played 271 games and booted 98 goals and is 3rd in all time games for Fremantle.



Geelong


Zac Smith (2.06m)

Zac Smith was a recruited player from the Gold Coast. He played exactly 50 games for the Cats before being sent back to the Gold Coast Suns at the end of the 2019 season. 



Gold Coast

Jarrod Witts (2.08m)

Witts has been tearing apart the competition at the moment and is beginning to become a household name. He is the Sun's co-captain and a star player at the Gold Coast suns.



Greater Western Sydney


Rory Lobb (2.06m)

Rory debuted for GWS in 2014 as a ruckman and forward. He got traded to Fremantle at the end of the 2018 season where he is still playing today. He is also 14th in most goals kicked for GWS!



Hawthorn


Ned Reeves (2.08m)

Reeves is a Hawthorn ruckman only in his second year, but is the tallest player Hawthorn have had ever. He’s had a tough run with injuries in his first 2 years (as you can see in the picture) but has a bright future at the Hawks.



Melbourne


Max Gawn (2.08m)

Max Gawn, for the 1 person who doesn’t know him, is the captain of last year’s premiers Melbourne and had an influential season last year. He has been playing with Melbourne since he was drafted in 2011. Gawn is well on his way to become one of the greatest, tallest and most loved Demon.



North Melbourne


Matthew Burton (2.10m)

Matthew Burton was the ruckman in the early 2000’s for North. He was traded from Fremantle to North Melbourne at the end of 1999 and played for the Roo’s until 2003. He played 77 games and kicked 33 goals.



Port Adelaide


Jarrad Redden (2.05m)

Redden only played 16 games for Port Adelaide but still carries the legacy as their tallest ever player. He played as ruckman for Port and even kicked 3 goals, but only got to be apart of 4 wins and even 1 draw in only 16 games. Redden played his first game in 2012 and played his last in 2015.



Richmond


Samson Ryan (2.06m)

Richmond are working on a few tall players at the moment and one of them is Samson Ryan. He’s only played 1 game which was round 15 in a disappointing loss to St Kilda. Samson had 1 hitout and somehow got -2 AFL Fantasy points? He’s been performing well in the VFL and the future looks bright for him.



St Kilda


Trent Knobel (2.04m)

Knobel played for St Kilda the longest out of the 3 clubs he played for including the Saints, Brisbane and Richmond. He debuted for Brisbane in 2000 and finished at Richmond in 2006 playing 75 games across his career.



Sydney


Sam Naismith (2.06m)

Sam debuted at Sydney in 2014 as their tallest ever player and had big years in 2016 and 2017 but sadly did his ACL in late 2017 and finally got back to the senior level in 2020 but heartbreakingly in only his second game back he did it again in the same right knee. Sam has been doing well on recovery and even just started being a runner for Sydney’s VFL team.


West Coast


Dean Cox (2.04m)

Dean Cox was an experienced West Coast Ruckman/Forward. He played 290 games for the Eagles and kicked 169 goals. He debuted in 2001 and played for 14 years until 2014. He’s now an assistant coach for Sydney.


Western Bulldogs


Peter Street (2.11m)

Peter Street debuted as the tallest player EVER at 2.11m. He played 3 seasons at Geelong and then moved to the Western Bulldogs where his career flourished. He was delisted in 2008 and went on to join the police force.
